Keighley Labs Ltd

What is Press Quenching?

This process is carried out after carburizing on thin or complex parts such as gears or cams which would distort excessively if directly quenched in oil. They are re-heated after cooling from carburizing in a rotary hearth furnace, and oil quenched on a press using specially designed tooling to hold them to shape as they cool.

The maximum diameter Keighley Laboratories can press quench is 0.6M, and the maximum height is 0.25M.

We can design and manufacture tooling for a specific part or provide drawings for the customer to make the tooling themselves.

Statistical process control is available on this process if required.
