Positive Material Identification / Alloy Verification
Using the latest equipment and technologies, Keighley Labs offer fast and accurate Positive Material Identification and Alloy Verification Services accredited to UKAS ISO 17025 for work carried out at our premises. Our services are carried out with the full support of our large UKAS ISO 17025 accredited chemical laboratory if required, or on-site by our highly skilled and experienced metallurgists and technicians.
Process
Our PMI/AV services use the latest equipment to ensure that rapid alloy verification of most ferrous and non-ferrous materials is carried out. The equipment used is based on XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) which rapidly sorts or identifies many metallic materials.
The XRF equipment uses the latest miniature X-ray tube technology – rather than Radiographic Source – that ensures safe on-site usage. This is operated by fully trained, competent and experienced technicians. All in-house processes are overseen by a Radiation Protection Supervisor who ensures compliance to Ionising Radiation Regulations local rules
Our PMI/AV services can be undertaken on a vast range of components. Some examples that Keighley Laboratories has worked on in the past include sorting of mixed materials, material identification on valve components, fasteners, fabrications, pipework on petrochemical, castings and forgings as well as many others.
Although some elements can be more difficult to identify and quantify, we can provide consultancy and advice as necessary.
Benefits of Positive Material Identification / Alloy Verification
Should you need PMI/AV with time constraints, our services provide fast and accurate results, providing you with a principle method of quality control.
Whether it is a large, small or even a swarf sample size, we can carry out identification in-house or on-site by our experienced team of technicians. Our in-house facilities include the full support of our large UKAS ISO 17025 accredited chemical laboratory if required.
Portable and hand-held, allowing work to be carried out in-house or on-site. With PMI/AV, there is no surface damage to components compared with arc-spark instruments. For further evaluation of testing and identification, our experienced metallurgists will also be able to provide their expert analysis.
Technical specifications
Our cutting-edge processes mean that we can provide fast and accurate results. Our XRF equipment uses modern miniature X-ray tube technology that ensures safe on-site usage. This is operated by our fully trained, competent technicians.
Our Radiation Protection Supervisors work in house, ensuring compliance to Ionising Radiation Regulations local rules. A full range of standards is available, with the standards produced and over-checked in house by our UKAS ISO 17025 accredited laboratory. Using PMI/AV, we are able to validate most ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
