What is Stress Relieving?

Stress relieving is intended to remove internal residual stresses generated by prior manufacturing processes such as casting, machining, cold work and welding. It is carried out so as not to produce changes in material structures or mechanical properties. Without it, subsequent processing may give rise to unacceptable distortion, cracking and associated service problems.

Stress relieving can be applied to both ferrous and non-ferrous alloys as well as some non-metallic materials such as plastics.
