With an increasing demand for Shallow Case Depth Gaseous Nitriding, Keighley Laboratories Limited has introduced a regular 36 hour treatment cycle.

This service, using state of the art furnace and process controls, ensures predictable metallurgical results with case depths ranging from 0.1mm up to 0.3mm (0.004” to 0.012”), dependant on material selection and method of verification

Benefits of Nitriding

Low temperature processing with minimal dimensional changes.  Close control of time, temperature and dissociation gives a controlled white layer depth and consistent metallurgical results minimising post heat treatment machining.

The consistency of the Nitriding cycle ensures predictable metallurgical results through a range of shallow to deep case depths – from 0.1mm up to the more traditional 0.7mm (0.004” to 0.028”).

Materials and Components

Nitriding is suitable for a range of pre-heat treated and preferably stabilised ferrous alloyed materials that contain Aluminium, Chromium, Molybdenum and Vanadium.  In some circumstances it can be applied to lean alloyed or carbon steels and some cast irons with reduced hardness, depth and other properties.  Typical components processed include: Gears, Crankshafts, Camshafts, Cam Followers, Die/Extrusion, Mould tooling and general engineering items.
